How to use

Choose the solid and a length unit. A is length, cube edge, or radius; B is prism width or round-solid height; C is prism height. Unused dimensions are ignored for the selected solid.

Formula & how it works

Prism = lwh; cube = s³; cylinder = πr²h; sphere = 4πr³/3; cone = πr²h/3. 1 m³ = 1,000 liters.

Worked example

Example 1

A 3 ft × 4 ft × 5 ft prism contains 60 ft³ = 2.2222 yd³ ≈ 1.6990 m³.

Assumptions & practical notes

Round solids use radius, not diameter. For cylinders and cones, B is perpendicular height; C is unused.

Conversions use US liquid gallons, not Imperial gallons. A container’s internal dimensions determine usable capacity.

Does a cone have the same volume as a cylinder?

With the same radius and height, its volume is one third of the cylinder’s.
