Your inputs

Choose a quick value or enter your own. Example inputs are filled in to get you started.

02 · A little clarityEXAMPLE RESULT

Enter your measurements and calculate.

Calculated in your browser. Shared links include your entered values; only share information you intend to make public.

How to use

Choose the value you want to find. Enter the other two measurements, using mm:ss or hh:mm:ss for time. Select miles or kilometers and check the pace unit before calculating.

Formula & how it works

Pace = elapsed time / distance. Finish time = pace × distance. Distance = elapsed time / pace. 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometers. Speed = distance / hours.

Worked examples

Example 1

Running 5 km in 25:00 gives 5:00 per kilometer, about 8:03 per mile, and 12 km/h. The time is elapsed time, so include any stops if you want an overall average.

Example 2

At a constant 9:00 per mile over 13.1 miles, elapsed time is 117.9 minutes, or 1:57:54. This is a constant-pace calculation, not a prediction based on another race.

Assumptions & practical notes

Use a colon between time components: 25:00 means 25 minutes, while 1:25:00 means 1 hour 25 minutes. Decimal seconds are supported.

Distance and pace units can differ; the calculation converts them internally before combining values. Displayed time is rounded to the nearest second.

This model assumes constant average pace. Elevation, fatigue, weather and terrain are not modeled, and split schedules are not generated.

See our calculation methodology for unit definitions and testing practices.

Frequently asked questions

Does 5:30 mean five and a half minutes?

Yes. The part after the colon is seconds, so 5:30 is 330 seconds. Entering 5.30 without a colon is not accepted as a pace.

Can I calculate a marathon finish time?

Choose finish time, enter 42.195 kilometers or your course distance, and enter a pace. The result assumes that average pace for the whole distance.

Can I use this for walking?

Yes. Time, distance and pace arithmetic is the same. This does not provide training or health recommendations.

Why do the displayed paces not convert perfectly?

Each displayed pace is rounded to a whole second. Internal calculations retain precision, so converting a rounded display can differ slightly.
