Mean Median Mode Calculator

Compare mean, median, modes, range, and sorted values for a dataset.

Your inputs

Choose a quick value or enter your own. Example inputs are filled in to get you started.

Use commas, spaces, or newlines; up to 1,000 values.
EXAMPLE RESULT

Enter your measurements and calculate.

Calculated in your browser. Shared links include your entered values; only share information you intend to make public.

How to use

Enter the dataset using commas, spaces, or newlines. Calculate to sort the values and compare their mean, median, highest-frequency values, and range. Repeated entries are counted individually.

Formula & how it works

Mean = Σx/n. Median is the middle sorted value, or the mean of the middle two values. Modes share the highest frequency. Range = maximum − minimum.

Worked example

Example 1

For 2, 3, 3, 8: mean = 16/4 = 4, median = (3 + 3)/2 = 3, mode = 3, and range = 6.

Assumptions & practical notes

All entries carry equal weight. If every entry occurs once, this tool reports No mode.

Multiple values tied at a repeated maximum frequency are all listed as modes. The median is less affected by extreme values than the mean.

See our calculation methodology for unit definitions and testing practices.

Frequently asked questions

Can there be more than one mode?

Yes. In 1, 1, 2, 2, 3 both 1 and 2 are modes.

What happens with an even count?

The median is the arithmetic mean of the middle two sorted values.
